Manuel León Ponce / Founder
The late Manuel León Ponce was an Associate Professor of Interior Design at Florida State University. In 1994 and 1999 he was judged one of Florida State University’s very best professors and was recognized with the university’s prestigious Excellence in Teaching award. He developed and conducted ten highly acclaimed CEU courses for Florida designers and architects, including 21 seminars held in Paris during the summers of 1995 and 1996 (See an article on his Italy seminars published in the Volume 5, No. 3 issue of Florida Design magazineand on his Paris seminars in the Volume 8, No. 3 issue of the same magazine.One of his projects, his own apartment in Paris, also appeared in the March/April 1998 issue of Southern Accents magazine.

Manuel León Ponce passed away on January 9, 2001 after a two-year battle against brain cancer.



Richard F.Geary III is president of Geary Design, an award winning interior and furniture design firm in Naples, Florida. Most recently Geary Design has won the ASID Design Excellence Award of South Florida for Best Residence Under 3500 Square Feet (1996) and Best Residence Over 3500 Square Feet (1977) and Best Product (1997). Almost 50% of each of the firm's projects contain furniture, hardware and lighting fixtures of Geary's design. He has taught History of Modern Furniture and Furniture Construction courses at the University of Florida and is a member of its Interior Design Curriculum Advisory Board.



Joy Dorst is an award-winning designer specializing in garden restoration. She has worked on acquisition and restoration projects in California and Florida. Her most recent works include garden restoration for Florida communities such as DeFuniak Springs, the Plantations of St. George Island, and the cities of Tallahassee and Key West. As a professor of landscape design, she serves as chair for the certification of Florida landscape designers and chair of the international accreditation board for landscape design. She is the vice-chair of the Florida Landscape Designers Association, a member of the American Society of Landscape Architecture and the Royal Horticulture Society.



Rebecca Brandon, ASID, is a principal and owner of Rebecca Cresse Brandon Interior Design. Rebecca has extensive hands-on experience in the field of textiles, including four years as the F. Schumacher & Co. fabric representative for North Florida, and previously as the Florida representative of Lacey-Champion Carpets, whose showroom she opened at DCOTA in 1990. She has over 15 years of design experience in various Florida and Atlanta firms. At the Atlanta School of Fashion and Design she specialized her course of studies in textiles and residential design. Rebecca has served as industry representative for the board of the North Florida Chapter of ASID and while at Schumacher she served on various committees including wall covering, fabric design and sampling. Design Arts Seminars is very proud to have this highly qualified textile specialist as one of its instructors. She is the first of a group of specialists who will join Manny Ponce in the next few years in continuing to provide high quality CEUs to the Florida design community.



Joseph A. Rey Barreau, American Lighting Association’s Director of Education, is also an award-winning professor in the epartment of Interior Design, Merchandising and Textiles at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Joseph is also a registered architect, a certified energy auditor and lighting consultant with experience overseeing more than 850 projects as a lighting designer, lighting consultant and/or principal architect in both residential and commercial sectors. He also directed lighting education programs and operated a large lab for a showroom/electrical distributor in Kentucky. In 1990 and 1991, he received two outstanding teacher awards from the University of kentucky.



Fredo Valladares, president of Design Nuovo, Inc., is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) with extensive international background including an architectural degree in Venezuela, set design in Germany and interior design in Italy. Fluent in five languages, Fredo has both residential and commercial experience worldwide. He is the winner of the prestigious ASID’s Signet Award, 1989 for residential design and the 1996 Florida Style Competition for furniture design. He recently received the Designer Of The Year "Gilda Award 2000" for residential design from the Interior Design Guild. Author of numerous articles on interior design, he is also the host of the famous design TV show "Detalles" broadcasted by MGM Latin America Networks in fourteen Latin American countries as well as in Spain and Portugal. He is also a member of DCOTA's (Design Center Of The Americas, Fort Lauderdale, Florida) designer on call program.



Robert Cangelosi, Jr., AIA has been the president of Koch and Wilson Architects since 1996. Over the years, Mr. Cangelosi has worked on projects ranging from new construction to pure restoration, adaptative reuse, as well as renovations of residential and commercial structures. His extensive knowledge of historic structures has led to commissions for architectural inventories. Mr. Cangelosi serves on the board of several organizations and is co-editor of the two latest books in the acclaimed New Orleans Architecture series published by the Friends of the Cabildo, Mr. Cangelosi also lectures frequently on local architectural history and has taught New Orleans architecture at Tulane University for over a decade. An award winning architect, Mr. Cangelosi was also featured in “Model Citizens” in New Orleans Magazine and appeared in “The Great American Porch” and “Dream Drives” for Home & Garden Television. This year Mr. Cangelosi was honored with the Harnett T. Kane Award of the Louisiana Landmarks Society, and was named year 2000 Role Model by the Young Leadership Council.



Connie Dyar is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design and Program Coordinator at Illinois State University. She was appointed Program Coordinator in 1996 where she reviewed and revised the Interior and Environmental Design program for it's first FIDER process and site visit. She has a Masters Degree in Housing and Environmental Design, and has worked in residential and commercial design for the past 15 years. She is affiliated with many professional organizations: American Society of Interior Designers, National Fire Protection Association, International Interior Design Association, Interior Design Educators Council, and the Illinois Interior Design Coalition. Professional affiliations include Chair of the ASID Central Illinois Association, Board Member of the Illinois Chapter ASID Nominating Committee and Vice President of the Illinois Interior Design Coalition. Through the IIDC she has devoted many hours to the legislative activities that protect the professional practice of interior design. Her work related to building codes and standards has been presented at National Fire Protection Association International meetings and published in Fire Technology and Journal of Architectural and Planning Research.



Asha Hegde, an educator and researcher, has devoted her past 15 years teaching and researching lighting in interior environments. Asha has a BS in Interior Design From Florida State University, and a MS and a Ph.D. in Interior Design with an emphasis in Lighting, from Oklahoma State University. She has over 25 refereed publications and presentations in the field of light and color. Currently, she is an adjunct faculty of Interior Design and Lighting Design at South West Texas State University. Asha, also plays a vital role in educating Architects, Interior Designers and other related lighting professionals through her role as the Educational Chair of the Southwest Region, and as an instructor in the Texas Capitol Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.



Marilyn Morgan - a professional member of ASID since 1990 and the president of Marilyn Morgan, ASID since 1997 - is an award-winning interior designer whose work has been featured in national and local publications. She holds a master's degree from the Graduate School of Architecture, Preservation and Planning, Columbia University. Adjunct professor of interior design and decorative arts at the Ringling School of Art and Design (Sarasota, Florida), Marilyn also writes and lectures on interior design and architecture-related topics as well as she currently serves on the Sarasota County Historic Preservation Commission.
